Then the forces on your back and neck are zero, even if you get a 17 lb bass sax, which has 2-1/2 feet more tube than a low A bari. My guess is a typical low Bb is 11-12 (my Conn was 11.5) and low A 12-13.. The contrabass saxophone is even larger and heavier, with twice the length of tubing of a baritone saxophone! When it comes to choosing a saxophone, size does matter. The larger the instrument, the deeper the sound. For this reason, many jazz and blues players prefer the alto or tenor sax.

The baritone saxophone is a member of the saxophone family and is known for its deep, rich sound. It is larger and heavier than other saxophones, with a curved neck and a U-shaped bell. The baritone saxophone (sometimes abbreviated to “bari sax”) is a member of the saxophone family of instruments, larger (and lower-pitched) than the tenor saxophone, but smaller (and higher-pitched) than the bass.It is the lowest-pitched saxophone in common use — the bass, contrabass and subcontrabass saxophones are relatively uncommon. Like all saxophones, it is a single-reed instrument.
